Community Youth Development (CYD)
Sep 28, 2016
CYD helps young people navigate the pitfalls of adolescence, teaches them to take pride in themselves and responsibility for their decisions, and prepares them to participate in our community as good citizens and civic leaders. Each year, thousands of local middle and high school students engage in CYD activities that cultivate leadership skills and support positive choices. But CYD is not just for leaders and high achievers. It is especially important for kids who might otherwise get left behind. For every teen with social skills and family support, there is one who struggles to fit in and stay out of trouble, one who would benefit from the opportunities that CYD activities provide. |

The Roy McBean Club is special because of its connection to the surrounding Newtown community. The majority of the members we serve live within walking distance of our facility. This allows our members to maximize the time they spend in a safe environment, with trusted adults who care about them. The facility recently acquired an adjacent lot so it can expand its facilities and member activities. To prepare the lot of inclusion in the Roy McBean property it must be cleared of debris and overgrown vegetation. That's the mission of the October Kiwanis One Day team. Be a part of expanding the Boys and Girls Club program on Saturday, October 22nd. |

New Dimentions in Residential Fire Safety
Nov 02, 2016
A free educational program, “New Dimensions in Residential Fire Safety,”. The program is thirty minutes, although an abbreviated version is also available. Mr. Smith's goal is to teach the new essentials of fire readiness within an entertaining format. Audiences have always commented on how much they learned and laughed, and how different this program is from other fire safety talks they’ve heard. This program has been presented to Rotary Clubs, Kiwanis Clubs and other civic organizations, all denominations of churches, the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), retired teachers’ groups, and others. "The retired Florida State Fire Marshal helped me start this private safety program over thirty years ago." Program content has been constantly updated. Over the years, Lyndon's advisory staff has included the retired Chiefs of the Atlanta and Columbia Bureaus of Fire Prevention, the Charlotte Fire Chief, the retired State Fire Marshals of South Carolina and Georgia, the Member Emeritus of the Code Committee of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and others. |

"The economic probabilities of the next four years under the new administration"
Nov 30, 2016
About GeorgeGeorge Rauch, a longtime resident of Longboat Key, Florida, is Chief Executive Officer of Bradenton-based General Propeller Company, and Sarasota-based Tropical Beach Resorts (located on Siesta Key). Prior to moving to Florida, Mr. Rauch was an investment banker, and he lived in New York, and Chicago. Mr. Rauch did his undergraduate work in Economics at Indiana University and graduate work in business at New York University. He became an officer and stockholder of Paine, Webber, Jackson & Curtis in 1971, was a founder of The Balcor Company (since sold to American Express), and purchased General Propeller Company in 1975. George will review the last several years economic reactions to things, then look at what the new admin is saying they'll do. A small handout will wrap up the talk which points out the unbelievable power of this economy and how it affects the whole world but is, itself, somewhat insulated from what is happening in the rest of the world.
Mr. Rauch has served as a commissioner for the Town of Longboat Key. He was a member of the Longboat Key Planning and Zoning Board for many years, and he served as president of the board of St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Bradenton, Florida. |

To Inform Families First
Jan 11, 2017
Spending two minutes now could save you and your loved ones countless hours of worry. TIFF (To Inform Families First) was founded by Christine Olson, the mother of Tiffiany, a young woman killed in a traffic accident in 2005. Christine did not learn of this tragedy until 6 and a half hours after the accident happened. Reflecting on Tiffiany’s accident and the agony it caused inspired Christine to ensure other families never need suffer the same situation. Christine dedicated her efforts to design an emergency contact database system that would allow law enforcement officers to instantly retrieve information needed to notify loved ones upon an emergency. With the support of Florida State Representative Bill Galvano, The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, and law enforcement agencies, a voluntary Emergency Contact Information program went into effect on October 2, 2006 in the state of Florida. |

Al Ernst is the headliner at our first fundraiser at McCurdy's Comedy Club. Al is Carnival Cruise Lines "Entertainer of the Year." He has presented entertaining and inspirational speeches, seminars and training to over 300 groups, including corporate gigs, professional wrestling announcing, and his own radio show. Al is very funny AND, as you can see from this YOUTUBE video his comedy is family friendly. Al's lives in Sarasota, but spends a great deal of time traveling. He told us that his boyhood years playing Little League Baseball were formative and he benefited greatly from the experience which, incidentally, was in large part because Kiwanis sponsored this team. That lead to the fundraiser! We are very fortunate to have found a time slot for Al to present at McCurdy's. McCurdy's "Green Room" opens at 6:00 pm, doors to the Theater open at 6:30 pm and the show starts at 7:00 pm. Please plan to attend and invite friends, neighbors and family. Ticket sales benefit the Siesta Key Kiwanis Club Foundation.
