ANNOUNCEMENTS AND CLUB BUSINESS

Dear Club members,

We will be having our meetings online through ZOOM, and you are invited to join and participate.

The ZOOM program that we are going to use is owned by the Tabernacle Church and has been set up by our own Reverend Joe Amico. If we decide to continue with the ZOOM program, the Club may purchase or lease its own platform in the future.

The steps are for the most part are simple. A laptop with a camera lens is best for use. A desktop computer or cell phone can be used, but you will receive audio only.

Click on the link provided below. You then allow the application to download to your computer which happens quickly. When ZOOM first opens you need to click on the video camera symbol on the bottom left to receive a visual. You then may need to click on the gallery #  symbol (perhaps top right) to enter the “Brady Bunch” format to see all members. Rev. Joe will have all on mute to begin.

Joe will be there to try to help those unfamiliar with the process.  Given the potential for 30-40 people to be on, Joe will mute everyone except the person speaking (Otherwise we’d have chaos).  So be sure you say something like “Now I’m going to turn the meeting over to………” so Joe can unmute that person.  If there are a lot of participants, Joe will need a few seconds to find them and unmute them.

Mike informed us of Don Kelly’s passing. Don was a fixture of the Beverly Rotary Club and great fellow who worked our live auction. The Beverly Rotarians created a seventy car drive by his house to honor him.

The North Andover Rotary Club is conducting a food drive to support the Lawrence area.

Joe Amico spoke about the scholarships and how he is handling the materials over email where in the past it was physical. Beth Alexander has been a great help in contacting guidance counselors. Based upon the COVID situation, Zoom meetings may have to take place with the applicants.

SPEAKER OF THE WEEK

The club initiated its first virtual meeting at 12:15pm this Tuesday. Joe Amico offered the Tabernacle’s Zoom video conferencing service for our use. Mike McLaughlin began with the pledge of allegiance and Joe Amico with a prayer to lend a semblance of tradition to our digital meeting.

Alex Falk, Assistant Governor for our District, joined our meeting to discuss both Rotary’s and our District’s ambitious fundraising objectives. He opened up with a picture of a well in Burkina Faso that was finished two years ago with the help of funds from our Club and the District. Rotary is hoping to raise $400M across its 1.2 million members.
